While on a visit to her family in Schoenaich, Germany, she brought back her brother Jacob's son John, aged 13.
The Ellis Island records show a John Lutz (13) coming over in August 1896 in the steerage section of the boat
headed for Philadelphia and a Mrs Maier (42 yrs) a shopkeeper of Bridesburg in the Cabin Class of the same vessel.
Raised the 2 orphaned daughters of John & Frederika Lutz. A cousin in Germany said the whole family died
from eating "bad meat" at a family outing, except for the two youngest girls, Amelia & Katie.
